From a wee young gal of five years old, I have always loved to entertain people. When I was a kid I made puppets and stages and held puppet shows for my family and friends in our basement. I also charged them a fee, not only for the show, but for the delicious popcorn I made, so I guess I had an entrepreneurial spirit from a very young age. If people only knew that I loved entertaining so much, I would do it for free.
I love to knit, design patterns for knitters and create crafts. At the age of 32, I taught myself to play guitar so I could learn what key I sang in when I sang in the shower. My dream was to be a country singer and song writer.
I married young and had three boys, so I always had an avid audience for my entertaining. With the warning of no allowance hanging over each word they spoke, they told me how good I was. Bless their wee hearts.
At age 38, I decided to take my gig from the bathroom to the public and I started singing in public. Sometimes I even got a standing ovation. I do remember the first time I went out, I was so nervous I couldn’t stand and the pick was going round and round in my hand. I sooo wanted to quit and run away, but my legs, I knew, wouldn’t hold me, so I just kept on. At the end, with a huge audience in tow, I received a standing ovation and someone at the back of the crowd shouted, “Your should be in “Nashville.” And so I began “officially” Since then I play for anyone who has the nerve to listen.
Eventually, I started having grown-up jobs like a maid service, massage therapy and managing a weight loss program. I am also a life coach and I coached women in the law of attraction and adjusting their mindset.
But my passion has always been entertaining. From learning ventriloquism for my puppets to getting my Master’s in hypnosis. From performing at weddings and parties, to writing funny newspaper articles; my mission has always been to bring a smile to each person I meet and to leave them in a better place than when we met. I always felt that we were strangers, who were meant to be friends.
Life has continued and I want to focus on the things that I love: my music, writing humour columns, public speaking and entertaining. I want to share these gifts with as many people as possible. That’s why I started The Chatterbox. I might add here that all my friends told me good news would never sell. The Chatterbox morphed from my version of the small newspaper I started years ago, then called The Coffee Beat. I loved producing that paper, and I made money to boot. I eventually sold that business after I grew it to 350 drop off points and printing of 10,000 copies; now you might recognize it as the Coffee News.

The past year has been rough for many, and full of doom and gloom, but I believe there is a spark, a wee brightness that with a moment of laughter or joy it disappears entirely and for that moment, however long it lasts you have a connection with the universe.
At 77 years old, I want to be that spark for you. Life should be a joyous run and I love getting people to laugh. I believe that life can be so fulfilling that no matter what age, we should be dancing through this life and love what we do until we croak. So please share this website with your family, your friends, your work colleagues, your crusty neighbor, anyone who you think needs a laugh today. Hopefully if Scrooge decides to detour to here, I can elicit a laugh from him…well a wee smile?
And when we can all get together again, look me up so I can come and hang out with you and make your celebrations, backyard BBQ’s, ladies wine nights etc. that much more fun.
Nice chatting with you. Meanwhile, take care…keep smiling.
Liz Underhill (aka Aunt Lizzie)
